Limited Edition RayRay dolls are now available on Etsy care of our friends at Thingsthataresquare. Clara Boo of Curioddities was commisioned to make 20 of these dolls, which have been sold exclusively at StolenBabies shows.

On May 10th, we attended the opening of our great friends S.O.C.O and Debbie Bruce's show "Too F@&#'n Cute!!" at Pehrspace in Echo Park. The show was a collective of 25 artists from the Animation Industry. One of the artists even did a painting based on us! As you can see we were delighted!

Afterwards we reenacted the piece in the alley behind the gallery. One of us got clobbered! >:(

RayRay - Lenora Claire presents Merry Titmas

On December 8th, RayRay attended the opening reception of Lenora Claire Presents...Merry Titmas curated by our friend Lenora Claire. She managed to combine her love for the unusual with raising funds and awareness for breast cancer. Click HERE for more info and some clips of RayRay.

In order to do our part, we decided to buy and wear bras, we've never done either. It was a new and humbling experience to go to the mall in glendale and find the right ones. As we handed the saleswoman our red 42DD bras, she paused, looked at us and said, "Do you need a gift receipt for these?" To which we quickly nodded yes.

Of course once we slipped into them, they felt quit nice. Thank you, Lane Bryant!

RayRay with Stolen Babies: The Tofurkey Give-a-way

RayRay joined our friends Stolen Babies on Wed the 21st to help them give a free Tofurkey to a lucky audience member. There were no Pilgrim costumes left anywhere so we figured our pirate costumes were good enough.

On November 16th, RayRay performed with The Mutaytor at Safari Sam's in Hollywood CA for their Pirate Show Spectacular!
For the show, The Mutaytor created all new special acts around the theme of pirates and seafaring fun. RayRay got into the spirit of things too. Scabbards is hand, RayRay took to the stage and performed some expert swordplay. Of course, where swords fail, guns sometimes win. And where guns fail, a giant fish dropped on your head will sometimes win.

DooDah Parade in Pasadena

Last November, RayRay marched in the 30th annual Doo Dah parade in Pasadena, CA with our friends, The Mystik Krewe De Dieux Dah.

Our group was filled all sorts of folks, from a Dixieland Band to people in wacky costumes.

To add to the Mardi Gras feel, we threw out bags and bags of beads to the audience. We kept a lookout for shy, overlooked people to make sure that they got beads too.

It's always a warm day in November each year on Doo Dah parade day. We would have been sweating if we could. Thanks for being so nice and not hitting us with too many stale marshmallows.

Ape in San Francisco

Last weekend we drove up to San Francisco to visit Ape, the Alternative Press Expo for the first time. It was a two day event, but we didn't make it until Sunday afternoon. It didn't seem that big a location, but there were way too many tables to visit in a few hours! We rushed in, bought our badges and started making the rounds to check out all of the independent comics, crafts, and artwork.

Luckily, it wasn't very crowded when we got there so getting through the crowds wasn't too bad, and we got a chance to get our pictures taken with the more unusual people there.
We bought stacks of handmade comics and even handed out a few of our own!

We look forward to next year!

Back from the Asphalt Trails

Back from another amazing tour!

So what was I doing on tour, in case you missed out? Well, about a week before the tour I got a call from Stolen Babies telling me that RayRay was going on the road with them. Gil went missing mysteriously about a week earlier and they wanted to make it up to the fans by bringing RayRay along as extra entertainment. RayRay however needed a personal assistant for the road, and since I worked with him before, I filled the position. He was relatively quiet on the car ride, not saying much to anyone (not that he ever does), but he was still giving off this sense of uneasiness. This didn't seem like the same person I worked with before. He was much more...menacing. I didn't realize how right I was...

The first show started off great. We got the equipment unloaded and set up the stage. I went and manned the merch booth as RayRay marched on with the rest of the band.

Unlike most shows he's done, RayRay just stood there as the band performed. Something was wrong. Things took a turn when RayRay starting banging on Ben's oil drum with a drumstick, which was really messing up the song (he has little to no rhythm). Dominique noticed that the drumstick RayRay had with him wasn't just any stick...it was GIL'S drum stick.

Needless to say, we were confused as to how he came into possession of said stick. Gil usually has those by his side wherever he goes. A bit more prodding and RayRay made a shocking reveal.

Yeah...that's Gil tied and gagged in that photo, our drummer who's been missing for nearly 2 weeks. The audience went along with it thinking it was part of the act; the band was more than disturbed. Rani asked RayRay what he wanted in return for his brother. RayRay handed him a ransom note.

What is it that he and his cohorts wanted?

Money. Not just a little money but ALL the money that they'd make on this tour. The crowd was more than willing to help pay the ransom price by buying merch. The band acted very professional, continuing the set while RayRay stood there silent. Perhaps it was a mistake to play "Spill!" though, as it got RayRay a bit angry. He started jumping around, threatening our fill in drummer Lee, and giving dirty looks to the rest of the band. The event was recorded...

So the rest of the tour was a bit awkward. Not wanting to upset RayRay out of fear that we'd get Gil back in pieces we let him do what he wanted at the rest of the shows. Fans seemed to like him. Apart from that mess I had a great time hanging with Rani, Ben, and Dominique. I owe a lot to Stolen Babies and will definitely be doing more with them in the future.

Special thanks to everyone in Estradasphere and Abney Park for playing some amazing music with us, to Jean-Paul and Melissa for letting us crash at their house in Olympia (and to Bruce, Zed, and Belly), to Dan for lending us his place in Oakland, to Raymond for giving me great advice on taking care of RayRay, and of course to Rani, Dominique, Ben, and Gil for being great friends and giving me awesome opportunities and life experiences. And a very big thanks to San Fran, Sacramento, Olympia, Tacoma, and Portland for being so cool and having great crowds. Hopefully I'll be coming back soon.

Knitting Factory, Hollywood

The show at the Knitting Factory was just what the doctor ordered.

Even though it was a Wednesday night, everyone out in the crowd really got into the music and the show. We couldn't help but join the dancing and jumping around, all of us just having a great time.

RayRay - San Diego Street Scene

On Aug 4th & 5th, RayRay performed with The Mutaytor at San Diego Street Scene. It was a big concert with multiple stages. On the other stages were Snoop Dogg, Tool, Wu Tang, and Queens of the Stone Age among others.

Because of bad timing on our part, we didn't leave L.A. until 4p.m. The Friday traffic made it take over four hours to get to San Diego and the show started at 8:30! We had to switch songs with the other performers so we would have time to put our makeup on.

The Mutaytor performed four sets a night for two nights. To try and keep things fun, we pulled out all the stops. RayRay's Kayla dog even made the trip.

She performed very well (for the most part).

Inbetween acts, we could hear the other shows that were going on on the other stages. A singer on a far away stage kept asking "What's my name?" and saying "San Diego!" for about 15 minutes. All in all, it was a great weekend.

RayRay - Starwood Hotel Group 2006 Sales Conference

On January 12th, RayRay performed with Mutaytor at the San Diego Convention Center for a corporate event hosted by Starwood Hotels.

Standing in the middle of the stage, RayRay is asked a simple but vague question by the video screen.

As a clock counts down, RayRay tries to think of the answer.

But to no avail.

The video screen bombards RayRay with more clues.

RayRay decide that the secret word is "Network".

RayRay is wrong.

RayRay then reveals what they meant to say was "Nextwork", which it the convention slogan. They are correct!

RayRay is joined on the stage with Mutaytor and bring the morning meeting to life.

It took a lot of planning and practice for just one minute of stage time, but it was worth it!

RayRay - Wakarusa Festival in Kansas

RayRay had a great time performing with Mutaytor this weekend at the Wakarusa Festival in Lawrence, Kansas. We had just gotten new shoes (much like the old ones, but more comfortable) a few days before.
It was a little after 2 in the morning at this outdoor venue when the clouds that had been putting on a lightening show for us finally decided to drop some heavy rain. Luckily, the show was under a big tent. Shortly after it was announced that a Tornado Warning had been issued.
When you are in that kind of situation, having a rock concert in a field, there really isn't anything that you can do except continue the show, which the band did.
At least the threat brought some cooler air; it can really be hard wearing black in the heat.
